Haile Selassie was one of the most famous leaders in Ethiopian history. Haile Selassie, the last emperor in the 3,000‐year‐old Ethiopian monarchy. As the emperor, he was exiled during the Italian occupation of Ethiopia due to the status he held.
Selassie would go onto return to Ethiopia and help in taking back control of the country from Italy. Rastafarians regard Haile Selassie I as God because Marcus Garvey’s prophecy - "Look to Africa where a black king shall be crowned, he shall be the Redeemer" - was instantly followed by the ascension of Haile Selassie as Emperor.
